Unplanned Pregnancy or Parenting a Young Child?

Whether you are faced with an unplanned pregnancy or you are struggling to parent an Infant or Toddler know that you are not alone. There are others who have been through what you are going through:  The following are eight real-life examples of our adoption situations that Rainbow of Love has encountered.

Teen Mother

When a 15-year-old girl and her boyfriend discovered she was pregnant, they explored their options and decided adoption was best for the child. They chose a closed (confidential) adoption and were able to move on as typical high school students towards their goals of attending college.

Middle Age Single Mother

With two children in college, a 45 year old single mother discovered that she was pregnant.  Not wanting to parent another child at this stage in life, she opted for a closed adoption.

Difficult Marriage & Domestic Violence

During a brief separation from her husband, a 40-year-old woman became pregnant by another man. After reconciling, the woman and her husband decided a closed adoption would be best for the baby.

A 30 year old mother in a violent relationship decided adoption was best for her family and her unborn child. She choose semi-open adoption so she can get a fresh start and out of a dangerous situation.

Pregnant Woman

Drugs and Alcohol & Child Best Interest

When a 27-year-old woman with a history of alcohol and drug abuse discovered she was five months pregnant, she stopped using immediately. Even after the mother stopped using drugs and alcohol, the baby still tested positive for marijuana, and CPS was called. The mother chose a semi-open adoption and the baby was quickly adopted by parents selected by the mother.

With no support from family, no job and no father figure, a 32 year old women made the difficult decision that it would be best for her 4 year old daughter to be placed in a semi-open adoption.  She selected the Adoptive family and continue to stay in contact with her daughter via letters and pictures.

College Students

A 21-year-old college student selected an open adoption after discovering her unplanned pregnancy because she did not feel she was emotionally or financially ready to become a parent. She was not sure who the father of the baby was and it was her goal to get a degree and get married before becoming a parent.

A 23 year old grad student, discovered she was pregnant when she was 6 months along. She had no previous signs of the pregnancy and the news was a major shock. She met the father of her baby at a campus party and their relationship was casual. She felt sure that adoption was the best decision as financially she was in debt with grad school loan and emotionally she was not prepared to be a parent. She struggled through her final semester of grad school and placed the baby into closed adoption one week after graduation. Her only request was that the baby be placed with a couple who were infertile.
